Meet the team

Curious about the team behind ONE Event Greece & Cyprus? We sat down for a quick chat with Alexis Onoufriou, Managing Director to learn more.

Q: It might sound strange, but… how does it actually feel to be Greek?

We all remember Gus Portokalos from the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, proudly tracing everything back to Greece. Is that kind of national pride really a thing in everyday life?

Alexis: Absolutely! Being Greek means, feeling like carrying a PhD in history, philosophy, and food – whether you signed up for it or not. We take pride in our roots, our hospitality, and, of course, in passionately debating where to get the best souvlaki.

We also have the distinct feeling that we were dropped onto possibly the best piece of land on Earth. That’s why, after any trip abroad, you’ll often hear Greeks stepping off the plane saying, “San tin Ellada den ehei” (Like Greece, nowhere!).

And yes, while My Big Fat Greek Wedding exaggerated for comedic effect, there’s some truth to it – most Greeks will happily remind you that the word you’re using probably has Ancient Greek origins. And if it doesn’t? Give us a minute, we’ll find a way to connect it!

Q: Be honest – do you dance the Zorba? – and if so, how many plates have you broken in the process?

Alexis: I know that for the purposes of this, and as a marketing tool, it would be great to say, “If you don’t see me dancing, you’re at the wrong party.” But the reality is a bit different. While I do dance the Zorba, I usually find myself in the role of host at our events where it’s not exactly proper to jump in… or maybe I just need to be comfortably surrounded by friends to let loose.

As for the plates, let’s just say I fully embrace the concept of creative destruction. I’ve smashed quite a few to get the party started!

Q: What’s the most common reaction from visitors after experiencing Greece or Cyprus?

Alexis: They come for the views, but they leave feeling like home. What truly amazes visitors isn’t just the stunning landscapes, it’s the people. Greek hospitality comes out naturally and effortlessly, it’s in our DNA and everyday life and has a way of making everyone feel like family, whether it’s through a heartfelt welcome, a shared meal, or a spontaneous conversation with a stranger.

At the end of the day, it’s all about emotions, connections, and the human touch. That’s what makes this beautiful destination truly unforgettable.
